On Friday morning I had written a posting titled, "What to do about terrorists?" where I said basically that this problem must be resolved by the Muslim community. Little did I know that Thomas Friedman of the NY Times wrote an OpEd piece titled, "If it's a Muslim problem, it needs a Muslim solution." I am thrilled he wrote the article, but it doesn't go far enough to call on the Muslim community to step up to the plate, as I did. Yes, he sees the problem for Muslims coming from the fallout of these attacks. But to wonder where the condemnation by clerics of the fatwa that was pronounced for Salman Rushdie, is distracting. Tom, you need to write clearer and provide some solutions to engage the Muslim community in serious commitment and accountability before it is too late. We need more ideas to bridge the divide and gain a more active involvement

I wonder could the London attach be the work of those who want their troops to stay in Iraq because the terrorist may not benefit from this action, at least in the short run. I have been reading an article that claims it is in the best interest of the government of the United Kingdom as the well as its ally, US to have this kind of turbulence in the public mind at this very moment. Well, it may sound funny or totally unbelievable that a government would take such an evil action on its OWN people. But I don’t know, me I kind of wonder “why not” Blair would do it to keep his army in Iraq and do much more….. any ways why not read the article guys? It doesn’t harm to know other alternatives to come up with a solution that could work for the stability of our world. May be it’s not wise to say only “It needs a Muslim solution”.
Lubu, I did go read the suggested page and wrote this comment to the editor. Sorry I don't agree with their view on this oner and I tried to stay open but alas, the comment below:
"Hmmmm. I could think of another interested group in this. How about those that believe it is a conspiracy of the governments. These attacks surely do galvanize those that believe a conspiracy is a foot.
Sometimes believing the simple story that this truly was a terrorist attack by terrorists and for terrorists interests, should be accepted. But that wouldn't conjure up conspiracies would it. It might keep others from thinking about how to put their minds into generating some creative solutions to terrorism. You say criticism is a "form of art-one which illuminates and persuades through compelling thought and writing -- and reflects our lives just as much as the issues we examine." How about some self examination. I have been trying to get others to seriously think, not in terms of whose right and whose wrong regarding policies of governments or how evil the terrorists are, but what can be done to minimize/stop their hijacking of the religion of Islam and those that practice it. How about contributing some ideas to this endeavor?"
Thanks
Charles
An outreach to appropriate clerics is needed to create dialog to prevent or reverse the misguided notion that a "True Believer" affords themselves an instant ticket to Gods blessings by killing themselves and as many innocents as possible. Fight disinformation with information that supports the notion that the only accomplishment is perpetuating the radical elements ability to wage war on the backs of ignorant and disinfranchised peasants and malcontents.
