U.S. Fatalities for the first week in September

U.S. Fatalities for the first week in September totalled 19, an average of almost 3 per day.

All this while the following is about to happen:

Largest U.S. Embassy in the World to open in Iraq in September

Plans have been moving ahead for an Embassy in Iraq and that its total cost is expected to be $592 Million and occupy over 120 acres of prime land in Baghdad. It is to be the largest Embassy in the world. It should hold at least 1000 personnel according to reports and is scheduled to open in September. They claim this has been built with blast proof walls and it will be safe. This prediction is brought to you from the same people that expected this to be a cake walk and that the Iraqi's would welcome us with flowers.

My thoughts on this are this was another bizarre byproduct of this Administration. My suggestion is that both President Bush and Vice President Cheney should be the first residents of this Embassy and move their offices there, as soon as possible. I believe in accountability for this war and that there needs to be consequences for good and bad decisions. If this is a good idea, then those that think it is a good idea should be willing to be the first residents there. Besides, if the Iraqi's love us so much they should welcome the both of you with open arms. I'm sure they have that in mind if you choose to take up the offer, but the "arms" they will offer are of a different variety, I would suspect.

Regarding tracking war casualties:

The following is an informative website:

http://tinyurl.com/ytayv

nb. I used the tinyurl.com website to shorten what was originally a long URL. Let me provide my personal assurance that this is a "safe" link; if you have any trouble, I am easily located for retribution and/or retaliation :)

Now, the above-referenced web site has an obvious lefty bias, but all of the data are from referenced, reliable sources. The web site has been up for some years.

The next time someone tries to tell you that there is progress going on, refer him/her to these graphs and tell him/her that you'll believe it when the slope of the regression line starts to trend downward. I've been following this very graphic for several years now, and I've sadly never had any objective reason to conclude that anything was happening beyond more soldiers getting blown up in history's largest game of Russian Roulette.

It's one thing to lose one's life in a firefight -- where a soldier at least has the opportunity to battle his way out. But just driving around, waiting for the IED which has one's name on it, seems a particularly wretched form of military duty. And for every fallen soldier, there are 10 often grieviously-wounded soldiers.

Larry, I don't know if you have seen my posts of the last month or two, but I have found that they are manipulating the actual numbers of U.S. Casualties to suit their propaganda. They had reported 79 deaths last month and that for each month since May the numbers have dropped. During the 1st week in Sept., after they had made their propaganda point, by magic 5 more deaths appeard in the August numbers. The same thing has happened in May and also in July.
