Bush's missed opportunity on Gonzales
This morning the President said this of Attorney General Gonzales, This is an honest, honorable man, in whom I have confidence." That may be true Mr. President but you forgot the one word that would be most important in your support of Gonzales. That word in COMPETENT which he is not and forms the basis for any job. Come to think of it Mr. President, you don't score high in that area either, and that may be why you can't judge others on that scale. You must be competent to evaluate one's competence.
If you had competence, Mr. President, you would seize this moment to galvanize Republican support for replacing Gonzales and finding an exemplary alternative as you did with Sec. of Defense, Robert Gates. Now he's an honorable man and very competent as well.
