Error of no oversight? Former Bush appointment Wolfowitz back in the news

Does this sound like familiar territory? Well it is. Back in the news today the once forgotten but never out of the news, Paul Wolfowitz, former Deputy Secretary of Defense under Donald Rumsfeld and current World Bank President. He was asked to consider resigning by the World Bank after this investigation. Seems he did what all Bush appointments are used to, promoted someone without proper oversight. It turns out it was his girlfriend. Here's a quote from the Staff of the World Bank, "The president must acknowledge that his conduct has compromised the integrity and effectiveness of the World Bank Group and has destroyed the staff's trust in his leadership," To read the full story click here.

Halliburton's Corporate Executives escape route to Dubai

Halliburton is moving its Corporate headquarters to Dubai according to news reports yesterday. Maybe they read waht I posted on March 9th on a piece about Alberto Gonzales and wanted to have an escape route from prosecution!

"When more oversight is done by this Congress, more revelations will be made from how Halliburton cheated us by not providing the services contracted, not by Millions of dollars, but by Billions. I will predict that when all the investigations are complete, many senior Halliburton officials will be charged with crimes and do jail time."

Reconstruction dollars for Iraq - Oversight? Overdue!

Congress has Paul Bremer, former Administrator under the Bush Administration from 2003-2004, giving testimony on what happened to the Billions of dollars of taxpayer money set aside for reconstruction in Iraq. It appears there were only 2 people with oversight roles assigned by our government and obviously they couldn't and didn't do much. So it appears we are looking at whom to blame for the lost money. This is the first time any oversight has been done by the Congress. The difference being that now there is a Democratic majority in charge in Congress. Before it was the Republicans in charge and they held no hearings. So maybe we should stop going back to folks like Paul Bremer and Stuart Bowen, the Special Inspector General for Reconstruction in Iraq, and start going after those Republicans who in Congress were in charge and they neglected their responsibility. I know, many Republicans were replaced in the last election. The problem is that 2/3rds of the Republicans who were in charge are still in Congress!
