New Mini Poll and results of the last survey.

There's a new Mini Poll I have posted on my Blog. Wanting to know where do you think cuts in spending should be made and whether taxes should be increased. I give multiple choice answers to vote for. Only one vote per person. You can add a comment on this post if you believe I have missed a category.

The results of my last Mini poll question yielded the following results. First the question:
Do you support the right to form and join Unions in State and Federal jobs with their right to collective bargaining or do you support the Gov. of Wisconsin's right to end this right?

80% said Yes, I support the State workers rights in Wisconsin.
20% said No, I don't support the State worker's rights in Wisconsin.

Tax rates during FDR's time.

With the situation in Wisconsin and the attempt by Gov. Walker to stop Collective Bargaining by State employees. I watched today a conversation on Cable news where people were quoting FDR and that he was against Unions back in those days and said he didn't think employees should have the right to strike if they were government employees. So I thought tonight I would shed some historical perspective to what pundits are claiming was the situation. So this below from Wikipedia about what was the tax rate back then compared to now.:

During World War II, Congress introduced payroll withholding and quarterly tax payments, Franklin D. Roosevelt tried to impose a 100% tax on all incomes over $25,000 to help with the war effort. For tax years 1944 through 1951, the highest marginal tax rate for individuals was 91%, increasing to 92% for 1952 and 1953, and reverting to 91% for tax years 1954 through 1963.

So when they discuss Union rights one must take into account that the tax rate back then for top earners was 91%. It was much more fair, although there were tax loopholes. Today's top tax rate for the wealthy is only 35%.

The issues in Wisconsin are complicated but focusing on breaking the Unions does not serve the State. Get on with governing and stop the drama!

Demonstrations in Wisconsin

We are now watching demonstrations in Madison, Wisconsin because the Gov. there wants to disband the Government Employees Unions right to collective bargaining. People are getting angry everywhere it seems and this battle is between the wealthiest interests and that of the Middle and not so Middle Class. It's tough to watch as this has been one result of the divided politics of the past 2 years. People don't seem to be able to reason with each other any more. It doesn't matter which side you are on either. Most elected officials seem to be doing it.

Egyptians are still protesting somewhat and now other countries are joining them. Now it's Bahrain, Libya, Yemen and the continuing fight for a voice in Iran. It seems that when a hard hand is used to quell the demonstrations, they are successful for the moment in breaking up the demonstrations, but it is sowing the seeds of violence from these peaceful demonstrators and it will end with many lives lost. It doesn't matter whose lives as all are precious. We are regressing as a civilized society and chaos seems to be inevitable.

It's a sad day for many today. Appreciate the freedom you do have but guard it well as it could easily be gone.

Obama wins Wisconsin and Hawaii by wide margins!

Yes it's true, Barack Obama has maintained his momentum and won the Primary, over Hillary. Thank you Wisconsin and Hawaii! Yes many hope Obama can help change America. We agree that much needs to be changed. Today was proof of that. Today the Supreme Court decided NOT to decide the issue as to whether the President has violated the law when he authorized a bypass of the FISA Court to listen to our phone calls. You see the next President is important to this country and we need to get behind Obama and support him to help us make the change. Will the change be what we all want? No! But it will be as our Founding Fathers wanted, a majority can make some positive change to deal with the issues of bankruptcy of our country, sacrifice by those who can afford to help the country. It is up to us to have the courage to vote our heart and our spirit. He is the one!
